Abstract: In this talk I describe my approach to pedagogy in terms of four pillars: establishing foundational knowledge, student-centered application, continuous growth, and leveraging technology. I describe how these pillars guide my teaching of Computer Science courses through a series of concrete examples from my experiences as an instructor of college-level undergraduate courses. I will conclude my talk with a brief example of my teaching covering an introduction to core database concepts.
Short Bio: Ignacio is a recent Computer Science Ph.D. graduate from North Carolina State University, where he was a member of the Computational Intelligence and Interactive Games Research (CIIGAR) Lab. While working to understand and influence human behavior in virtual gaming environments as part of his doctoral research, Ignacio also worked with the Senior Design Center of NC State's CSC Department in multiple instructional roles. As a result of his involvement with the Senior Design Center, Ignacio earned multiple Outstanding Teaching Assistant awards from the Department of Computer Science at NC State, as well as a campus-wide University Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant award from NC State's Graduate Student Association. Ignacio's commitment to improving as an educator is exemplified by his completion of two programs in the Preparing Future Leaders initiative at NC State: the Certificate of Accomplishment in Teaching and the Preparing the Professoriate Fellowship.
