Samatova Receives Workshop Grant
Dr. Nagiza Samatova, associate professor of computer science at NC State University has been awarded $20,000 by the National Science Foundation to fund her proposal titled “Workshop on Mathematics for Petascale Data.”
The grant will support travel for participants to the "Mathematics for Analysis of Petascale Data" workshop to be held June 3-5, 2008
The award will run from May 15, 2008 through April 30, 2009.
Abstract - The goal of this workshop is to engage mathematical scientists and applications researchers to define a research agenda for developing the next-generation mathematical techniques needed to meet the challenges posed by petascale data sets.

Abstract - The goal of this workshop is to engage mathematical scientists and applications researchers to define a research agenda for developing the next-generation mathematical techniques needed to meet the challenges posed by petascale data sets.
Specific objectives are to:
• understand the needs of various scientific domains
• delineate appropriate mathematical approaches and techniques
• determine the current state-of-the-art in these approaches and techniques
• identify the gaps that must be addressed to enable the effective analysis of large, complex data sets in the next five to ten years.
