Senior Design Center's 'Posters & Pies' 30th Anniversary Celebration Set for April 23
Join the Department of Computer Science for the Senior Design Center's 'Posters & Pies' 30th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. In addition to showcasing the student teams’ projects, this year’s celebration will include a panel discussion on the history of the Senior Design Center, plus goals for the center’s future.
About the Senior Design Center (SDC):
For three decades, the SDC has brought student teams and corporate sponsors together to work on real-world problems, with a goal of creating viable products, services, and solutions. This is one of the department’s strongest programs, helping develop and differentiate graduates as they enter the industry in a time of change, collaboration and growth.
The panel will kick off the 30th Anniversary Event at 1 p.m.; discussion topics will include the SDC’s founding, the importance of connecting students to industry and a glimpse into the center’s future. The panel will be moderated by SDC Technical Communications Advisor Kelly Markham. SDC Assistant Director Ignacio Domínguez will give a brief welcome before kicking off the discussion.
Panelists:
- Alan Tharp: professor emeritus; former Department of Computer Science head; SDC co-founder
- Bob Fornaro: professor emeritus; SDC co-founder, first director and co-creator
- Margaret R. Heil: current SDC director, lecturer, advisor and co-creator
- Alex Cail: software developer at Katabasis; 2023 alumna; Spring 2025 project sponsor
- CJ Saretto: CTO at Axiom; 2001 alumnus (M.S.); CS Hall of Fame member; Spring 2025 project sponsor
We hope you’ll join us for this year’s event, as it marks an important milestone in the program. It’s a great opportunity to connect with current industry leaders, including those who’ve sponsored this semester’s projects, and the talent of tomorrow – our CS students!
