Jared Peterson of SAS to be Featured in Labcorp “Leadership in Technology” Speakers Series

Please join us on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the Hunt Library Auditorium for the Fall 2024 Labcorp “Leadership in Technology” Speakers Series

Jared Peterson, Senior Vice President of Platform Engineering at SAS, will be our special guest speaker.  His topic will be “Pulling Back the Curtain on Platform Engineering:  How Technology Skills Will Come to Life in Your Career.”

As Senior Vice President of Platform Engineering at SAS, Peterson leads a global, multi-faceted team dedicated to delivering SAS’ market-leading data and AI platform, SAS Viya. He is responsible for all aspects of research and development, including software engineering, cloud-native design and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD). His teams deliver products across the entire data and AI life cycle, providing knowledge in the moments that matter. By striving for quality, craftsmanship and excellence across all disciplines, he consistently helps SAS customers innovate and be more productive.

Peterson has more than 25 years of experience in the software industry, with twelve of those years spent at SAS. Most recently, he served as Director of Advanced Analytics, leading global Natural Language Processing teams. During this time, he contributed to many notable SAS products, including SAS Visual Text Analytics.

Peterson is passionate about inspiring his workforce, with a people-first leadership style that values innovation, accountability and empathy. He’s also a dynamic communicator with a unique ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences.

After earning a degree in computer science from Auburn University, Peterson worked as a developer at several small tech companies before joining SAS. He credits those early years with not only solidifying a love of technology, but also for instilling a start-up mentality that embodies hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering determination that anything is possible – even the craziest of ideas.

Peterson is a recipient of the SAS CEO Award of Excellence and holds five patents. He was a member of the Advisory Committee for the Goodnight Scholars Program at NC State University.

AbstractYou’ve put years into programming. Devoted hours to developing. Got adventurous with AI. But while computer science is incredibly cool, how do all those strategies and techniques you’re learning connect to what tech companies are currently doing? Jared Peterson, senior vice president of Platform Engineering at SAS, gives you a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the SAS approach to data and AI – and connects what you’re covering in class with what the developers, engineers, systems architects and other tech professionals in his division do on a daily basis.

The event is free and open to the public.  Ample free parking is available on Centennial Campus after 5 pm.  For directions and more information, click here.

These lectures have been approved by the CSC Graduate Oversight Committee to count toward the required lectures for graduate students.
