Cyber Defense Lab Opens (4/24/2003)
Since
the terrorist attacks of September 11, the people and government
of the United States have intensified their efforts to protect
our critical infrastructure. Faculty and students in the Department
of Computer Science at North Carolina State University have
contributed to that effort with their research in cyber defense.
On April 24th, the department opened the new Cyber Defense
Laboratory on NC States Centennial Campus. The lab,
located in Room 220 in the Venture III building on NCSU's
Centennial Campus, houses faculty and students performing
cyber defense research. To read more about this exciting enhancement
to the department's research capabilities, see the article

New Faculty Member Announcements (4/30/2003)
We are pleased to announce that Jaewoo Kang, Ting
Yu and Xiaosong Ma will join the department effective
August 16th as an assistant professors of computer science.
Kang will receive his PhD this summer from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, where the focus of his research is on
understanding the fundamental aspects of building a large-scale
Internet information system that can answer complex queries
over billions of Internet data sources. Kang has served as
Founder/CTO of a startup in Santa Clara, CA and has worked

research is trust establishment over Internet-like open environments,
where interactions and coalitions happen between entities
from different security domains. He has experience at both
AT&T Labs-Research and the Motorola Urban Design Center.
Yu's office will be in the Cyber Defense Laboratory in 243
