Vouk Reappointed Head of Computer Science Department
Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega, Dean of the College of Engineering at NC State, recently announced that professor Dr. Mladen A. Vouk, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Associate Vice Provost for Information Technology at NC State, has been reappointed for a second five-year term as Head of the Department. more

Chancellor Addresses the Budget Crisis
Our governor and state legislators are beginning the task of responding to the state's drastic budget shortfall of almost four billion dollars. It's not an overstatement to say this is the most difficult budget challenge the state and the university have faced since the great depression. more
Best Paper Award Presented at MASS ‘10
A paper co-authored by several from the College of Engineering at NC State University recently won the Best Paper Award at the 7th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Systems (IEEE MASS ‘10) in San Francisco, CA on November 9, 2010. more
Gong, Gu & Wilkes Win Best Paper Award
Congratulations to Zhenhuan Gong, computer science PhD student, Dr. Xiaohui (Helen) Gu, assistant professor of computer science at NC State, and John Wilkes, a researcher at Google, whose co-authored paper entitled, “PRESS: Predictive Elastic ReSource Scaling for Cloud Systems”, was recently recognized with the Best Paper Award at the 6th IEEE International Conference on Network and Services Management (CNSM) in Niagra Falls, Canada in October 2010. more

Trustees Unanimously Approve Future Demolition of Harrelson Hall
The often criticized, yet iconic round building on the brickyard, that has served as one of the most utilized classroom buildings on campus for fifty years, will be demolished by the end of 2014 after two studies concluded that the building could not be renovated to maintain overall efficiency. more

Departmental Gifts & Research
Duke Energy has donated $25,000 to the department in support of the Sr Design Center and the ePartners Program.
Progress Energy has donated $15,000 to the department in support of the ePartners Program.
The Raleigh Chapter of the ISSA has donated $12,000 to the department in support of the Charles W. Kelly / ISSA Scholarship.
TransLoc has donated $10,000 to the department in support of the Sr Design Center.
Mrs. Ling Tai has donated $2,500 to the KC Tai Memorial Endowment fund.
Dr. Franc Brglez has been awarded $55,300 by the Army Research Office (ARO) for sponsorship of the Triangle Computer Science Distinguished Lecturer Series. more
