Improving Public Engagement with Science Museums

A team of computer science, education and museum researchers is launching a project to better understand how museum visitors interact with educational exhibits. The ultimate goal: helping museums capture public interest. “Our goal is to develop tools and models that can help museums measure visitor engagement and modify their exhibits to enhance that engagement,” says Dr. James Lester, a Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at NC State University, and director of NC State’s Center for Educational Informatics (CEI), who is the principal investigator on the $1.95M project. more

Showcasing Games and VR for Education at ECGC

At the 10th annual East Coast Game Conference (ECGC) held April 17-19 at the Raleigh Convention Center, NC State was well represented along the exposition floor. ECGC is the largest gathering of video game professionals on the east coast and provides a platform for networking and collaboration among developers. DELTA and the Department of Computer Science facilitated a space to showcase a variety of innovative and cutting-edge projects from across the university. College of Sciences, College of Natural Resources, Global Training Initiative, College of Engineering, College of Design and NCSU Libraries were all represented at ECGC within one exhibit. more

King Receives Gertrude Cox Award for Teaching with Technology

Congratulations to Dr. Jason King, teaching assistant professor in the NC State Department of Computer Science, on recently being presented with the Gertrude Cox Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching and Learning with Technology. The award was presented to two individual faculty, and a team of faculty, staff and postdoctoral scholars. more

Coates Recognized for Support of WMEP Faculty/Staff Outreach

Congratulations to Tammy Coates, CSC’s Assistant Director of External Relations, who recently received the College of Engineering’s Most Supportive Staff Award for Women and Minority Engineering Programs (WMEP) Faculty/Staff Outreach. The award is presented to the staff member who supports WMEP students in a way that makes them feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. This person helps students navigate day-to-day challenges throughout their college experience. more

Spring Diploma Ceremony Set for May 10th in Reynolds Coliseum

Please join us for the NC State University Computer Science Department Spring Diploma Ceremony on Thursday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the newly renovated William Neal Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State University, located at 2411 Dunn Avenue, Raleigh (directions). Kimberly Calhoun, COO of Money Masters TV and Network, CEO and Founder of CAP Science Labs, and inventor of Guardianator, will provide the keynote address. more

2018 CSC Alumni 'Hall of Fame' Nominations Open

As part of our 50th Year Celebration last fall, the department launched its CSC Alumni Hall of Fame inducting 25 members in the inaugural class, as well as honoring 6 outstanding young alumni. Nominations are now open online thru July 1st for candidates to be considered for recognition with the 2018 class of honorees. Nominees not selected are retained for consideration in future years. This year's inductees will be announced and recognized at a special event to coincide with Homecoming activities in the fall.

Wexford in Talks for Centennial’s Next Phase

NC State University has selected Wexford Science & Technology LLC to begin negotiations for the next phase of public-private development on NC State’s Centennial Campus. The 32-acre site sits on the northeastern end of the campus near Engineering Building 2 (home of Computer Science) and Golden Leaf Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center. more

Using Virtual Reality to Plot Urban Green Spaces

NC State researchers are using immersive virtual reality (VR) to test perceptions of green spaces. The multi-disciplinary experts at the Center for Geospatial Analytics used a robot to capture 360-degree, high-resolution images of a downtown Raleigh plaza and of a city park, then manipulated the vegetation to create different environments. more

Personalized Job Search Agent in ePack

If you are a CSC student or recent graduate (within 12 months post-graduation) and would like to receive email notifications when new jobs are posted on ePack matching your profile, you can set up your own customized job search agent to receive just the postings you desire (intern vs. full time, etc). For a short video tutorial on how to create your own personalized job agent, click here.

The Alumni Association has partnered with the University Career Development Center to make ePACK available to NC State alumni. If you are a current Alumni Association member, update your online profile by visiting the Wolfpack Connect (alumni directory) and click on the ‘Update My Info’ tab on the upper right side of the page. Select the ‘Career Connections’ tab and then choose ‘yes’ beside the question, ‘Do you want access to ePACK?’

To access ePACK you must be a member of the Alumni Association and you must be an alumnus/alumnae of NC State. If you are not a member of the Alumni Association, you can join online. Once you have received an email confirming your membership, you will be able to register for access to ePACK.
